A digital craft cutter has to be one of the greatest inventions of all time. When it comes to time saving and quality of finish can we really compare the old ways of doing things to what can be achieved by my sleek new digital craft cutter?
Ok I’m messing with you. Yes I do have a new digital craft cutter, more on that later, but seriously, it got me thinking… Are things better now in the world of arts and crafts or have we somehow lost our soul along the way?
Take any craft you like, and I mean craft in the broadest sense, and think back to times past and several things should hit you. Time being one of them.
What does time mean now? Getting things done quickly? Learning things fast? Time means money? To a lot of people anything that takes time, time to learn, time to understand, time to master, is not worth doing.
Everything today, it seems, can be done digitally. I know we are in the computer age, but are we loosing the skills we need to produce things without the aid of a computer? Tell me what you think. Digital Craft Cutter – To Buy Or Not To Buy
Ok confession time. I have a digital craft cutter. In fact I think I am now on my fourth digital craft cutter. I have purchased them all to perform one specific task (a task we will talk about another day) and I have to say it does it well. However, I have to admit that I find them a bit soulless, and the mere act of using is cheating. Is it just me who feels this way about technology?
So what I want to ask is this. Are you for or against the use of technologies such as digital craft cutters? If you have a digital craft cutter which one did you buy and why did you buy it? If your hobby or craft involves the use of a digital craft cutter, is the task you have it perform only achievable by machine or could you do it by hand?
